Cross- Country Season Ends

The season is ending and I couldn't be more proud of these kids! Cross-country isn't like other team sports, there are no time-outs or breaks. We practice together, teams score together but runners race against each other. We become our own competition too. It's the runner against nature and their body screaming to stop, there is nothing more challenging. Yet while the most people sleep, these kids are up on Saturdays at 4:30am or 5:00am just to show exactly how tough they are. They put in the miles when its close to 100°F and when its in the 20s°F. They run all terrain, push through injuries and cheer on their teammates even on crutches. These kids have the highest GPAs of any sports in the school and work in the community. I seriously can not express how proud I am to be a mentor in their lives. This year we won championships, had a state qualifying guy and the entire girls team made it to state for the 2nd time in the history of the school!!! To my 4 year runners, I have watched you grow in so many ways, you are truly incredible. For the younger ones, look to your seniors, they have become leaders and completely embody the amazing sportsmanship of this sport. It will be up to you to carry forward excellence and make sure volley-tennis never dies lol Enjoy the break because training starts in the spring!
